The count above runs to 00:00 on the next Monday in your own time zone. Ask on a Wednesday and it is five days; ask late on a Sunday evening and it is the handful of hours most people are actually thinking about when they type this.

If today is Monday, the count runs the other way and tells you how long ago it began. That is the truthful answer rather than a jump forward to next week: a Monday you are standing in is not seven days away, and a countdown that claimed otherwise would be wrong for a full day out of every seven.

Monday is day 1 of the week under ISO 8601, the numbering most of the world's software uses, which is why a calendar in a spreadsheet or a database usually starts its rows here. American wall calendars start on Sunday instead, so the same Monday is the second column there. The coming one, always: the very next Monday to arrive on your calendar. This is worth saying because "next Monday" in conversation is genuinely ambiguous, and on a Friday it can mean either the Monday three days away or the one ten days away. The count above never means the second of those.

How long is it from Sunday night to Monday?

Whatever is left until midnight where you are, which the count gives you to the second. This is the most common moment for the question, and the honest answer is usually a few hours rather than a day: Monday starts at 00:00, not when the alarm goes off.

How many working days does the count cover?

The working days figure counts Monday to Friday from tomorrow up to and including the target, so counting to a Monday it comes to one more than a plain week of weekdays would suggest. Public holidays are not deducted, because they differ by country and by year.

How many hours is that, rather than days?
