Conversion table

FromTo

Every kilogram from one to twenty-five, in pounds. One kilogram is 2.2046 pounds, from a pound defined as 0.45359237 kilograms exactly. The rounding is on this side of the conversion, which is why the rows do not land on neat figures.

The everyday shorthand is to double it and add ten percent, which is 2.2 rather than 2.2046 and drifts by about a fifth of a pound at twenty-five kilograms. Fine for luggage, not for a dose or a recipe, and the chart is here for when the shorthand is not good enough.

Change Step to 5 for a chart that spans a hundred kilograms in the same twenty-five rows, or to 0.5 for the half-kilogram steps a baby is weighed in. Pounds and ounces are not shown: the second column is decimal pounds, so 0.5 is half a pound and not eight ounces.

How to use it

  1. Read the table, which is built for this pair of units when the page opens.
  2. Change Start, Step or Rows to cover a different range.
  3. Press Print for the table on its own, without the rest of the page.

Questions

How many pounds is one kg?

2.2046 pounds, to four places. The exact relationship is the other way round: a pound is defined as 0.45359237 kilograms, so that side terminates and this one does not. The common shorthand of 2.2 is close enough for luggage and out by about half a percent.

Are these pounds and ounces?

No, decimal pounds. A result of 3.5 means three and a half pounds, which is three pounds eight ounces and not three pounds five. To get ounces from the decimal part, multiply it by sixteen.

How do I chart half-kilogram steps?

Set Step to 0.5. That is the interval a baby's weight is usually recorded in, and twenty-five rows then covers twelve and a half kilograms. Raise the row count for a longer chart; it goes to two hundred.

Can I change the range of the chart?

Yes. Start is the first value in the left column, Step is the gap between rows, and Rows is how many there are, up to two hundred. All three update the table as you type, and the unit menus above them will convert any other pair in the same category.

Is the table built on my device?

Yes, by WebAssembly compiled from Rust, using conversion factors that are compiled in rather than fetched. Nothing is uploaded, nothing is stored, and the page prints the same table with the network off.
