Opens on PNG output. WebP is smaller and modern, and is exactly what you do not want when something older refuses to open it: older versions of Office, some printers, a few editors and a number of upload forms still reject it.
PNG is lossless and keeps transparency, so it is the safe destination from WebP: nothing is lost in the conversion beyond the file getting bigger. If the WebP was itself lossy, those losses stay, as they do in any conversion.
Your browser already decodes WebP, which is what makes this possible without a server. The picture never leaves the tab.

Questions
Why will nothing open my WebP file?
It is a newer format, and support outside browsers is patchy. Browsers have handled it for years, but desktop applications, printers and upload forms are slower, and a good deal of software written before 2020 simply does not know it. PNG or JPEG will be accepted anywhere.
Does converting WebP to PNG improve it?
No, and nothing can. If the WebP was saved lossily, that detail is gone; PNG preserves what is left exactly rather than recovering anything. It stops further loss and it opens everywhere, which are the two reasons to do it.
Is my picture uploaded anywhere?
No. The file is decoded, drawn to a canvas and re-encoded entirely by your own browser. This page is served with a Content-Security-Policy whose connect-src is none, so it is not permitted to open a connection at all. Photographs are the files people most often regret uploading, which is most of the point.
Can I resize while converting?
Yes, and that is why this is the resizer rather than a separate tool. The width and height are filled in from the picture you choose, so leaving them alone converts at the original size; changing them does both jobs in one pass and one re-encode.
