Exactly one hundred words, counted rather than estimated. That distinction is the
        whole reason to ask by word instead of by paragraph: a paragraph is however long it
        turns out to be, and a hundred words is a hundred words.

        
It is the length a lot of limits are written at. Meta descriptions, app store
        summaries, bio fields and abstract boxes all tend to be specified in words or in the
        characters a hundred words comes to, which is about six hundred and fifty
        with spaces. The character count beside the output is the one to check against a form
        that counts that way instead.

        
Asking by word gives you one block rather than several, since a word count says
        nothing about where paragraphs should break. Switch the unit to paragraphs if the
        shape matters more than the number.

Questions


Is it exactly a hundred words?
Yes, when the unit is set to words: the count is what is asked for and what is produced. Asking by paragraph is different, because a paragraph runs to however many words its sentences come to, and only lands near a round number by accident.


How many characters is a hundred words?
Around six hundred and fifty including spaces, but it moves with the draw and it is not a number to guess at. The exact figure for the text on screen is printed beside the output, which matters when the limit you are testing counts characters rather than words.


What is lorem ipsum?
Latin-looking placeholder text, scrambled from Cicero's De finibus of 45 BC and used by typesetters since the 1500s. The point of nonsense is that it cannot be read: real copy in a mockup pulls a reviewer into what it says instead of how the page looks, and English placeholder is worse still because it half-reads.


Is the text sent anywhere?
No. It is generated in this tab by WebAssembly compiled from Rust, so nothing about what you asked for leaves the device and the page keeps working with the network off. There is no account and nothing is stored.
