Five sentences as one block, which comes to fifty or sixty words depending on the draw. Asking by sentence is the middle ground between a word count, which says nothing about rhythm, and a paragraph count, which says nothing about length.

It is the right unit when what you are testing is punctuation rather than volume: how a font sets full stops and commas, whether the leading survives a line that ends mid-clause, how a justified column handles sentences of uneven length. A word count cannot ask for that, because it does not know where the sentences end.

Can I get three sentences instead?

Yes, put 3 in the box and the text regenerates as you type. Three sentences comes to around thirty words, which is about the size of a card description or a standfirst under a headline.

What is lorem ipsum?

Latin-looking placeholder text, scrambled from Cicero's De finibus of 45 BC and used by typesetters since the 1500s. The point of nonsense is that it cannot be read: real copy in a mockup pulls a reviewer into what it says instead of how the page looks, and English placeholder is worse still because it half-reads.

Is the text sent anywhere?

No. It is generated in this tab by WebAssembly compiled from Rust, so nothing about what you asked for leaves the device and the page keeps working with the network off. There is no account and nothing is stored.
